This art exhibition is a collaboration ourselves, the Malta UNESCO Youth Association (MUYA) and Sara Pace Artworks. Towards September of 2016 Sara contacted MUYA with a project idea about migration in Malta. The project considered migrants coming both to and leaving from Malta. The idea stemmed from a question about identity, namely Maltese identity and whether one should differentiate too much between diverse cultures. This idea brought about a yearlong project of research, interviews, meetings and formulating the final exhibition. Due to the fact that the project is about people, migrants, who through coming to Malta, have inevitably brought their own cultures, but also learnt how to integrate within the cultures of their host county. The remit of the exhibition lies in the links between Malta and these various cultures may be further forged and explored, as may be well seen through these artworks that showcase a representative lens upon the diverse cultures presently living in Malta.
The works consisted of two separate visual and audio pieces presented through video projection, and two sculptural elements focusing on poetry about migration to and from Malta and soil as a representation of the land. |
